Started reading Hawaii-bred Robert Kiyosaki's bestselling book "Rich Dad Poor Dad", and wanted to share these quotes that resonated with me so far.
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost: "Two roads diverged..., and I-
I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference."
Robert Kiyosaki's "Rich Dad": "Does teaching mean talking or a lecture?... Most of the time, life does not talk to you. It just sort of pushes you around. Each push of life is saying, 'Wake up. There's something I want you to learn.'"...
Since last week Friday, I've been quite sick. Symptoms of the flu seemed to quickly appear (fever, body aches, congestion). I waited perhaps too long to seek professional treatment, as I thought this too was something I could heal myself as I usually do in 2-3 days.
Thanks to my raw and tender throat, I have found bliss and a delightful peace that has allowed me to listen rather than just hear. As I have been healing / detoxing / cleansing / you name it, between the coughing, hacking and nose blowing, I've been praying, meditating, writing a lot and reading...
Took a morning beach walk yesterday morning, and these insights came to me as I was reflecting on (what I didn't realize until then) were my limited thoughts about people's actions.
Our life is determined by our perceptions (which form the basis of our beliefs) - how we choose to see events, people, their actions/inactions, our actions/inaction...
The one, the only one, that could take your breath away...
Who knows you... who understands you... who loves you, who you love.
But wait, there could be more than one soul mate?!...
"Happiness is not something ready made... It comes from your own actions." - Dalai Lama
During this week's healing process (from a two week plus flu - 20 days to be exact), I found myself feeling at least 90% better physically (still coughing and very tired), but with a fusion of feelings of concern and appreciation. If you recall my recent blog, I mentioned that I had been without my voice/most of my voice...
This concern and appreciation for my voice during this time forced me to reflect on what has been really going on internally, which has actually been helping me develop my strongest voice yet - my inner voice...
A question many people ask when they are in relationships is, "Isn't this too much for me (or anyone) to take?" The dilemma is usually that we can love someone with all their strengths and weaknesses, and because they are also with us, we conclude that they are also loving and accepting our strengths and weaknesses too. Note that this is isn't necessarily the case, as people who don't love themselves tend to become dependent on someone to "hold them up" with love because they themselves are not providing love for themselves (and much less other people).
Looking back in retrospect, I can see that I have made conscious decisions to stay in relationships that were not healthy for me because I was trying to show and receive unconditional love.
So how much is too much? How do we know when to move on?...
It seems the debate over how much of our life is predestined (aka fate) or in our control (aka destiny) has been going on since mankind existed. It was a thematic topic in the modern movie classic Serendipity (one of my all time favorite films by the way)...
During my splendid "epiphany walk" yesterday morning, some ideas came to me:
* If I want something from someone, I need to already possess it.
* If I want something to happen to me, I need to already be doing it...
It's been said that the kind of questions we ask help us grow and get further in life...
I used to post a "Quote of the Day," but since there are so many found on the Internet, I began posting daily questions. Since I wasn't sure exactly where this was going, I looked around for inspiration and posted direct quotes. Then I started to get a feel for how I wanted to position the questions. Essentially, the questions I post are to hopefully remind people (including myself) about the joys in life that we have the power to experience through reflection...
Read this quote from one of my favorite books Forgiveness: The Greatest Healer of All by Gerald Jampolsky, M.D. and had an epiphany I wanted to share with you:
"Forgiveness is the shortest route to God."
I have come to believe that the word "God" means among many things, potential. Specifically our potential because we are part of this being, consciousness, energy source...

Traci Toguchi uncorks motivational songs with Energizer Bunny zest... Former Miss Hawaii... realizes a dream come true with the release of her first CD. The album offers uplifting energy and advice in 15 songs — the power can be absorbed even through the titles, such as "Feel the Breeze," "Let Go," "One Moment in Time." Self-empowerment coaching set to music. A couple tunes are known, three feature slightly different deliveries and most are co-authored by the singer. The covers — a plaintive, piano-backed "Over the Rainbow," and "God Bless the U.S.A." — fit in this mode of making a difference and positive thinking. In all this high-energy, soaring-goals therapy, one truly powerful song, performed with a bit of restraint, is "What's Another Day," which should be singled out as Toguchi's signature... Toguchi gushes and bubbles with zeal and passion; if you need to jump-start your day — or your life — you might find a jolt here... An ebullient debut.
... marks the start of a new chapter in her colorful career. The production credits indicate that it was a long-time labor of love that took her to many recording studios and producers... She does beautifully with straight pop arrangements... other selections are originals that convey similar inspirational messages... Toguchi has an appealing voice and the musical arrangements are exceptional... music is only half the package. Where some self-help authors might include a CD of inspirational music with their books, Toguchi provides a book's worth of insights on self-empowerment in her liner notes. Good advice is where you find it, and she shares a lot of it here -- there's even a list of books and other resource materials she evidently found useful in her own search for enlightenment... this landmark album must also be read in its entirety to appreciate everything she has to offer.

It's Traci Time! Former Miss Hawaii Traci Toguchi prepares to release the most anticipated music CD from Hawaii in a long time, Feel the Breeze. After a series of frustrating starts and stops, the time is right for soaring success.
- MidWeek
And to nobody's surprise, singing honors went to Traci Toguchi.
Dave Donnelly - The Honolulu Star-Bulletin
Toguchi is the most energetic of the five on stage. She started singing at 5, began her classical voice training at 9, and was a member of the touring cast of "Miss Saigon"... She is also a prolific songwriter and currently sings in six languages (Japanese, Okinawan, English, Hawaiian, Italian and French).
You were super, great, and wonderful! We've had so many words of praise for your performance.
Larry Price & Michael Perry, KSSK FM Radio, referring to their live weekend show
Traci Toguchi creates a beautiful blend of poignancy and unintended humor as she sings "Somewhere That's Green" and dominates the "Little Shop" segment...

Traci Toguchi lets loose with vocal skyrockets...

Toguchi sang 'Naniwa Bushi Dayo Jinsei Wa' and 'Hero' with surprising power for her petite frame.

"...Traci Toguchi belted out a soaring "I'd Give My Life or You...
Wayne Harada, The Honolulu Advertiser, in an article about Miss Saigon auditions"...Traci Toguchi belted out a soaring "I'd Give My Life or You.
After the first two lines, the applause started. Looking out into the unpredictable audience at Amateur Night at the Apollo in New York, Traci Toguchi says she suddenly felt like the “holy spirit” had taken over her body... She had been in New York for a while after she finished her Miss Hawaii reign. Toguchi spent a year touring with the cast of Miss Saigon... did various work in film and theatre and studied at the Strasberg Institute. She was about to move to Los Angeles, but before she went, Toguchi just had to know if she could cut it at the famous Amateur Night at the Apollo... “I sang And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going and they just started cheering!” Toguchi won that evening... she was part of a performing Shakespeare group called Will & Co, appeared on the soap opera Passions, did some independent films and continued her singing career... she won the title after two years of prior competition. Her platform on aging with dignity became even more significant to her when her grandfather passed away just a month after she took the title. Toguchi dedicated her year to visiting almost 100 senior organizations and clubs and published a handbook for seniors called Aging with Dignity: Social Options for Seniors... “Being Miss Hawaii was equivalent to 20 years of living,” she says. “It showed me that if I really want something I have to know the reason why I want it..."
Katie Young - MidWeek
"Growing up in Kaimuki, Traci Toguchi had stars in her eyes from the time she won her first KZOO Karaoke Taikai at age 9. She dreamed of becoming a singer like Debbie Gibson or Madonna. 'But a clean Madonna,' Toguchi, a former Miss Hawaii, says with a chuckle. Since winning the Miss Hawaii crown 11 years ago, Toguchi has put all her energies - and her 100-pound frame is packed with 100 percent energy - into making her dreams of stardom come true..."
"Airing Miss Hawaii live also leaves room for other mishaps, such as when Traci Toguchi, Miss Hawaii 1995, was performing her talent as a contestant. 'Tracy can really belt out a song,' recalls Abregano. 'She was singing You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman and she got to that part where the song really culminates. For some reason, a taxi cab company must have been on the same frequency as the cordless microphone because all we heard was Traci singing and then the cab dispatch guy. So it was, ‘You make me feel like a natural woman … Pick up at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.’ Toguchi had to perform her talent all over again."
"But then Dudley had a chance to meet with Miss Hawaii... Traci Toguchi, who lured Dudley in with the integrity of the program. The Miss America Organization provides $45 million annually in scholarship money to contestants and is known as the world’s largest provider of academic assistance for young women."
"Traci Toguchi was a guest on Perry and Price's show this past Saturday and hit some skyrocketing notes on Whitney Houston and Aretha Franklin songs. An astonished Perry asked, "How do you do that so early in the morning?" She responded, "I have to wake up very early." The result was that Perry asked her to be a guest on "The Hawaiian Moving Company" in the near future when the former Miss Hawaii begins work on a new CD. Traci will really have to get up early next Saturday when she appears in the Okinawan Festival Parade as one of two Okinawan Miss Hawaii's -- Cheryl Toma Sanders is the other. She'll sing the National Anthem at the Kapiolani Park Bandstand, with Cheryl accompanying her on keyboards. She'll also sing at that evening's "Beyond the Sea" fund-raiser along with yet another former Miss Hawaii, Billie Takaki..."

Your enthusiasm at what you do was very catching and had the audience captivated. Everyone enjoyed the breathing exercises, singing, and your lovely rendition of "Lovely Hula Hands." Keith Haugen, Entertainer and Radio Personality, Hawaii
Your presence certainly made a lasting impression among both the younger and older members of the club. A member told me that tears came to her eyes when you were singing, "Bashofu." The emotion and sincerity that you project to others in your singing is a gift that very few people possess. Keep on sharing that gift.

Rinda Fernandez, Student Advisor, Kaiser High School, Hawaii
I'll see if I can stop by and watch you amaze the crowd. If I don't make this one, let me know your next engagement. P.S. My Dad said you gave him chicken skin and he couldn't stop talking about your "Stage Presence" and voice, keep it up!!!
Bobby Lee, Miss Hawaii Pageant Committee
"Wrapping up the evening was Traci Toguchi, a person of infectious enthusiasm and energy who sang cuts from her Na Hoku Hanohano nominated CD."
Amy Knull about Traci's performance for St. Michael's Annual Men's Fundraising Dinner on Kauai
Wow! Wow! Wow! Everyone was blown away at your singing!! Girl, you either got to get your own showroom in Hawaii or you need to leave here and go where your talents can explode on the scene. One of the best performances of "Evergreen" I have heard! You capture the essence of this timeless lyric beautifully, reminds me of Lara Fabian's rendition.

Great talent, Great Message! "I was fortunate have seen Traci in 'Miss Saigon.' She is so versatile -- this CD ranges from pop to power ballads. Each one is truly inspirational. I also love her theme of living up to one's potential. The world of music can learn a lesson from her. We need more performers like Traci Toguchi." - MikeNY911
